I took a walk yesterday. The weather was quite nice and I stopped by Trader Joe’s to pick up a few things to make dinner. I also bought some flowers. Bright pink ones. They make me smile every time I look at them. Henry enjoys smelling them while Harley just tries to eat them. So they are now sitting on the mantle next to a lovely print that was a Christmas gift from some friends.
I really enjoyed the walk. I don’t go for walks nearly as much as I should. I had a conversation over the NYE holiday with a friend that lives in the next city over but I tend to only see during NYE (at least that has been the case for the last few years) and then we go and live our lives, always with the best of intentions of getting together through out the year. Several months ago he adopted a puppy and began jogging with her. They jogged 600 miles in 2015. Of course I congratulated him on the achievement. And we started talking about fitness health and such. I have a fitbit and I actually keep track of how much I walk. On an average day, I take around 3,000 steps. A little more here and there if I’m feeling good. I used to average much more, but in recent months I’ve been experiencing more flares. Which really wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t so rough on me. The conversation with my friend made me realize that I’ve been talking about doing things in small increments, but not following through. I was talking the talk but not walking the walk. (No pun intended.)
So after my walk to Trader Joe’s and back again I decided that I really should go for more walks and I will endeavor to make it part of my daily routine. Even if it means setting a 10 minute timer on my phone. I should be able to manage a 10 minute walk.
I fell woefully short of reading 50 books last year as part of my annual GoodReads challenge. Naturally I set it up again for 2016. Normally I read whatever strikes my fancy. (This might have contributed to why I didn’t meet my self-imposed challenge.) This year however I agreed to be part of a book club with the intention of reading books from a list that Huffpo put together listing “21 books from the last 5 years that every woman should read”. (I’m not linking the site.)
The first book chosen from the list was Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Aidchie. The book club doesn’t plan on meeting until some time in February, but I thought it would be a good book to start January with. I’m not that far into it but I already like the way the prose flows.
As for work, I am rather pleased that I am just about finished with my first commission of the year. It’s not my usual fair, but I am having fun with it. I should be wrapped up by Wednesday.
The two pieces I had listed in the FB store sold recently as well so the shop is currently empty until I make a few more things.
I’ll also be publishing a new knitting pattern this month. I’m just double checking some numbers and finishing up the test knit.
I quietly started posting pictures on my Instagram account with #/365. Yes, I am posting/taking a picture a day. I somehow managed to get ahead of myself between days 3 and 4 (I misread my calendar or something) so technically I didn’t post a picture today. The numbers still match so if you are interested you can follow that over on my Instagram.
Several years ago I surprised one of my SiL’s by attending her baby shower. I haven’t managed another visit since and she has had a second child. Well this month Matt and I finally get to meet our nephew and niece because the SiL is coming for a visit! I’m thrilled and really looking forward to the visit.
