Summer Camp

It’s almost six o’clock in the morning as write this post. In a few hours I will be on my way to Possum Kingdom Lake, TX. Why? Several months ago I volunteered to be a Counselor @ Camp Quest.

Image sourced from Camp Quest TexasAnd I am just a little nervous about the whole thing. You see, I’ve never been to summer camp before. Ever.

This is going to be a brand new experience for me. One that is both fun and enlightening.

It was a huge step for me to even consider volunteering for this event as it is way outside my comfort zone of things to do. It was an even bigger step for me to agree to become a counselor after going through the process (paperwork, background checks).

This week I’ve been running about getting everything together. Heck, I even bought shorts – something I haven’t done for…well… a really really long time.
Seems 2012 is the year for a lot of new experiences for me.

I’ve been checking and rechecking my list to make sure I don’t forget anything. Knowing me though I likely will. One of the cooler things that I am taking along is one of the smallest and simplest. A small LED maglite flashlight. Why do I think it’s cool? It has a setting for SOS on it in morse code. Yeah, I’m a geek. I know.

I’m taking my camera and my phone with me. I might be able to document some of the experience of my first summer camp via my phone if not I will end up writing a really really long post after I return.

Here’s hoping that I don’t return looking like a lobster after it has been boiled.

    1. Oh my goodness! It was amazing, a lot of work, and tiring. I did meet a lot of wonderful people and am glad for the experience.
