Ill Wind is the first book in the Weather Warden series. Classic cars, demon marks, folks that can control various elemental aspects(weather, fire, earth) in order to protect the world, and a rather yummy Djinn add up for one heck of a story.
I am always pleasantly surprised to find books that use Oklahoma as a backdrop – especially towns with which I am really familiar with. Given the premise of the series, it should not have surprised me in the least as Oklahoma has been witness to some rather interesting weather…
It didn’t take long for me to like the main character Joanne, though I did want to occasionally throttle her because of the constant doubting game she played. I adored David the moment he crossed the page.
Certain plot points are telegraphed and are only surprising if you, just like Joanne, are not truly paying attention. This doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the story. It was actually somewhat amusing to watch Joanne realize what was going on.
Overall it was a lovely start to a series that I am truly looking forward to continuing. There are currently 9 books in the Weather Warden series.
