And The Winner Is

Nanowrimo 2011 Winner Badge provided by The Office of Letters and LightMe.  As if you didn’t see that coming a mile away.  I went and validated the manuscript that wants badly to be a novel but has a long way to go before it gets there. The total word count with which I am ending Nanowrimo 2011 is  (drum roll please!) 53,131.

And here I thought I wouldn’t make it across that finish line. What was I thinking? Oh right. The week that is called “Fall Break”/ Thanksgiving. The week where I only used the computer to occasionally check my email or Facebook while my family came to visit…the week in which it took me two days to recover from one day of cooking. Write during that week? No way. That’s all.

Somewhere along the way, I think it was Black Friday, while I tried to recovery physically as well as mentally from Thanksgiving I apparently did some writing. I remember playing FB games [Why did I start playing again?] and eating icecream bars – I think I used them as rewards. It’s all a bit fuzzy really. However I did it, I managed to make up the difference and surpass the 50k goal.

I have the shiny new badge at the top and a Pdf file of the 2011 Winner Certificate on my desktop waiting to be printed (along with the last Five years worth…) as well as the knowledge that I have achieved something that thousands upon thousands have only dreamed of but never dared to do. Instead of just wishing I had time to write that novel I wrote that novel. It might never see the light of day beyond this point, but at least I did it.

Now I can focus on other things. Like reading a book that’s been sitting on my desk since the beginning of November or even working on a pattern design idea for a friend. Or simply taking the time to watch Henry sleep. I never get enough of that…
